What a great time had by many at the recent Cairns Rotary Foundation Dinner. More than 100 attendees and thousands of dollars raised for Rotary, gave all the new club PE’s something to think about for there up and coming Rotary Presidential year. What a great night everyone had at the Cairns Regional Council City Chambers last Monday 13.9.10, where around 150 people attended the CALANNA PHARMACY & ROTARY CLUB of CAIRNS EARLVILLE, annual student speaking competition finals.  Mario Calanna (the event organiser) said, “that once again the standard of student speaking was extremely high and every year the students seem to get better and better”. ”The competition has great support from the schools in the Cairns region too with their strong support for the students to participate. Over the years its been exciting for me to see these young speakers mature and blossom and with their confidence in public speaking, who knows where they may end up… mayeven be a future PM ?   Mr. Calanna wanted to sincerely thank all the schools, teachers, students and family members for their valuable contribution to this annual program”. The competition has been on the Calanna / Rotary calendar for more than thirty years and  a job well done again by Mario and his team.   Best regards  Jeff Haynes PR Chair District 9550.

At the Paul Harris Breakfast at the District 9550 Conference last weekend in Townsville,(2.5.10) a very big congratulations to Denise Bowen and PDG Phil Dempster on receiving their Paul Harris Society Membership Award from PDG Joanne Shilling.
