Posted by AG Group 5 on March 12th, 2010Pictured - AG-elect John Palamountain (RC Darwin), District Treasurer Ian Lomas, Services Chair-elect Phil Dempster IPDG (RC Cairns Earlville), Foundation Chair-elect Joanne Schilling PDG (RC Darwin South), AG Mike Woods (RC Cairns Sunrise), AG Sharon Taylor (RC Thuringowa Northern Beaches), District Membership Chair Rodger Bow (RC Ingham), District Trainer Jeff Crofts PDG (RC Cairns Mulgrave).
Congratulations to representatives of the District Team in achieving Master PRLS status, the first for Australia. On 20.2.10 the pictured district team received their accreditation and awards in Cairns from David Moss-Bennett . District Trainer Jeff Crofts also commented that the district is looking forward to the commencement of our first Master PRLS training course currently planned for May 2010. The D9550 also had some Basic PRLS graduates which included not just Rotarians (and in some cases their family members), but also Rotaract and Interact members. Jeff Crofts also said that D9550 also had two members of Rotaract Club of Dili who attend Basic PRLS. We (D9550) believe that Basic PRLS has been an invaluable tool for our district development . We also need to note that our district has 20 Basic PRLS trainers and that over 130 D9550 Rotarians have completed Basic PRLS courses run in Darwin, Cairns, Townsville and Mount Isa since August 2008.” Thank you to District Trainer Jeff Crofts for the additional notes and well done to the district team. Jeff Haynes D9550 PR Chair.
Cairns Earlville embark upon 2010 Bowelscan project
Posted by AG Group 5 on March 12th, 2010
Following the fantastic effort by the Cairns Earlville Rotary Club and Ian Lomas in 2009, the ”Mover & Shaker” Rotary Bowelscan program for 2010 has begun. Ian Lomas has agreed to coordinate the CE club effort again and the media advertising has started. (See the media attachement.) The Pharmacy premises are ready, the kits are waiting and the phones are ready. Good luck to Ian and the Cairns Earlville Club. Please and where you can, let ALL clubs in Group 5 support this potentially LIFE SAVING PROGRAM. Regards Mike Woods, AG5
Cairns Club 80th Anniversary – 20.2.10
Posted by AG Group 5 on February 22nd, 2010On Saturday evening, 20th February a fantastic night was had in celebrating the RC of Cairns 80th Anniversary. Around 120 attendees including many district officials, DG, DGE, DGN, PDG’s, some Cairns RC Presidents and many other guests and friends. Cairns Club President, Wayne Lapthorne took this occasion to another notable level with donations of around $20k to Rotary and other local groups. RC of Cairns also awarded a Paul Harris Fellow to Mr. Charles Woodward for his contribution to local business and community. The live music and fun went on to the early hours of Sunday and it was good to see the district team awake and ready for training on the Sunday morning, all except one PDG ! Thank you to the Cairns Club organisers and I like many others are looking forward to the 100th bash. Regards D9950 PR Jeff Haynes.

Some great photos of the Cairns Rotary YEP’s at the Civic Reception for Inbound, outbound and rebound students on 20th January 2010.
Cairns Mayor and Cr. Val Schier, Deputy Mayor Cr Margaret Cochrane and many other Councillors were in attendence, not forgetting the Rotary team: DG nominee Graham Koch, Mike Woods, Evonne Docherty and Sandy McEachan, to name a few. Another successful YEP event and I guess close to 100 people there. D9550 PR Jeff Haynes
